Recipes Puttanesca

ALLA PUTTANESCA refers to a type of spaghetti dish. The name of the dish is derived from an Italian word meaning “whore” but the origins of the dish have more to do with late-night female factory workers, not prostitutes. They would eat this spicy dish cold or room temperature after returning from their shift.

Here is what you will need to do to create your own Spaghetti alla Puttanesca dish. Warm a skillet on medium heat and coat with extra virgin olive oil. Lower the heat to medium low and add two cloves chopped garlic and a half teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes. Add two or three anchovies, cup chopped kalamata olives, and teaspoon capers. Lower the heat to low and add cooked spaghetti and marinara sauce. Toss the ingredients together in the skillet and serve. You can adjust the amounts listed above according to your own tastes.
