Planning Update
Winchester City Council’s Planning Committee resolved to grant planning permission for the renaissance of Silver Hill on 27 March 2007.
This decision followed extensive public consultation with local people and stakeholders. A planning application for the comprehensive renaissance of the Silver Hill area of Winchester was submitted to Winchester City Council on Tuesday 23rd May 2006 by Thornfield Properties, the developers chosen by Council to redevelop this key city centre site.
The proposals subsequently evolved and, where possible, local views and ideas have been incorporated into the revised scheme.
The main changes made included: architectural amendments of the facades; a reassessment of the design of the new buildings as they relate to the setting; the relocation of the farmers and weekly markets to Broadway and the new Silver Hill Square; improvements to the landscaping of the public realm; an increase in office space and the inclusion of live/work units for small businesses.
Thornfield Public Exhibition Events
The planning application has been submitted and as part of Thornfield's ongoing commitment to public consultation, exhibitions were held to display the final design on 8, 9 and 10 July 2006 in the Undercroft of Winchester Cathedral.
